Over the past few years there has been a style revolution where buying second hand or vintage clothes has become cool af. The downside to this is people constantly calling you a “pretentious w*nker” or “sh*t hipster” and even claiming that you think you’re better than everyone else. Well let’s be honest that last bit is true. You are better than everyone else and here’s why:

1) SAVING THAT P

As a student with crippling debts, one thing I really appreciate about vintage shopping is that it’s cheap. We all have a taste for expensive things, but obviously can’t all afford them. Second hand and vintage shops allow you to cop designer clothes for a fraction of the price- so when you see your mate wearing his new Tommy jumper just know that your vintage one was probably cheaper. WINNING.

Also, vintage clothes usually hold their value. Throwing away your old clothes is a lot like chucking money in the bin, so why not get yourself a selling account and earn some dollar from your preloved garms? Be smug in your expensive quarter zip knowing it’s holding its value.

2) SAVING THAT P-LANET 

So, f*ck plastics, right? Our boy big D.Attenborough & the internet have recently highlighted the issues with plastic ending up in the oceans. A lot of old tracksuit bottoms and jackets are made of nylon, a material that is a right b*stard to recycle. Luckily there’s a hoard of vintage garmers out there waiting to cop your old grails and keep those wavey windbreakers out of the oceans. So instead of purchasing new, save both lives and money by buying preloved and selling on.

3) “YEAH I GOT IT FROM THIS REALLY EDGY VINTAGE SHOP” 

The biggest reason to buy vintage? So you can tell everyone you bought vintage. 

Let’s get real, is there any better feeling than someone complementing you on your wavey shirt and then asking, “where did you cop?” just for you to let them know that it’s from an edgy vintage place/ website? I think not. Telling someone your clothes are vintage is like telling people about your “gap yah” or “finding yourself” except you’re not an insufferable tw*t.   

So, to conclude I’m not saying you’re better than your friends for buying vintage… Oh no wait I am. You are better than your friends: you’re saving the planet whilst looking don.
